O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD. You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

God knows everything. He knows when you sit down when you get up. Before you even pray a word, he knows what your'e gonna say. He's always there, he always knows, nothing can be hidden from God.

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?  If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.  If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

There's nowhere that you can be away from God to do whatever you want to do. Your'e accountable for what you do cuz he sees you.

The idols of the nations are silver and gold, made by the hands of men. They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but they cannot see; they have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouths. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.

What does it mean when it says, 'Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them'? I have no clue.

If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared

Imagine what would happen if God kept a record of sins. As I'm reading psalms, this is my second time to read it, I noticed that God kept seeming to highlight out the verses that tell of how perfect and awesome he is.I didn't notice this the first time I read it. I think god is showing me something.

Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.  Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table.  Thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD.

Wow. That's a cool promise. And not only are you blessed in your wife and kide and you're prosperous, but, as I said the post before last, we have God watching over us too!

If the LORD had not been on our side—let Israel say-  if the LORD had not been on our side when men attacked us, when their anger flared against us, they would have swallowed us alive; the flood would have engulfed us,the torrent would have swept over us, the raging waters would have swept us away. Praise be to the LORD, who has not let us be torn by their teeth.

Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.

Nothing can be accomplished without God. You can't build a house without God. you really can't do anything without him. The people of Israel would of died under the Egyptians if God hadn't opened  the red sea. They would've died in the desert if God hadn't given them water. There's a thousand ways that they, or we, would've died if God hadn't been watching out for us. But we have a God that can kill 185,000 Assyrian men over night! I feel protected!

I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

We have the maker of the world protecting us! We have God watching over us, keeping us from all harm, watching over your life, your coming and going forever! Isn't that comforting?

Something I learned

Our discipleship pastor is going to leave to move to Texas soon, so I guess that was why he preached a sermon yesterday. But he said something interesting that I knew, but I guess I didn't really ever look into it or realize how enormous it really was. He was talking about the great love of God, and he said: Not only were we not sons and daughters of God, but we were enemies of God. So, God saved his enemies, and not only saved them, he made us sons and daughters! How deep the Father's love for us.

It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.

Well, I'm glad he discovered that it was good for him in the end. But what did it exactly mean by afflict? It could mean several things, did God make him sick? Was it some kind of enemy?
